Robin Quivers

Robin Ophelia Quivers (born August 8, 1952) is an American talk show host and Howard Stern’s primary co-host on his morning radio show.

Biography

Early life

Quivers was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Louise, a homemaker and housekeeper, and Charles Quivers, Sr., a steelworker at Bethlehem Steel; both of her parents had only seventh grade educations.[1] She has an older brother, Charles Quivers Jr.

Quivers revealed in her 1995 autobiography that her father molested her when she was a preteen and that she overheard her parents arguing after her mother caught her father molesting another little girl who lived in their neighborhood. Her father was never arrested or charged with molesting Quivers or any other child. He is now deceased, having suffered from Alzheimer’s in old age.

Quivers served as a nurse in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Captain.

Career

A graduate of the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland, Quivers has been in the radio business since 1980, joining Stern in 1981 at DC101. Stern moved around to numerous stations, being fired or quitting during the 1980s. Quivers stood by Stern wherever the show would take them, and continued their partnership. In February 2006, Stern bought Quivers a Mercedes-Benz SL55 hardtop convertible in appreciation for her work on the show.

Quivers appeared as Judith on the 85th episode, “You’ve Got to Be a Football Hero”, of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which aired on November 29, 1993. In 1996, Quivers co-starred in a made-for-TV movie called Deadly Web. Quivers also regularly appeared on Stern’s Channel 9 and E! shows while they aired, and currently on Stern’s iN DEMAND show.

A Life

Quivers: A Life

In 1995, Quivers’ autobiography, titled Quivers: A Life, was published. In the book, Quivers writes about her relationship with Stern and his radio show crew, as well as her life of growing up in the mean streets of Baltimore.

During the 2004 election season, Quivers pledged to leave the USA in the event that George W. Bush was re-elected. Quivers has yet to fulfill her pledge and no on-air discussion has addressed this issue to date. In similar fashion, Quivers has backed off a 2006 challenge to fellow Sirius broadcaster Bubba The Love Sponge to engage in a stock car race where the loser of the event would be required to perform a sexual act on the race winner. Quivers did participate in the Toyota Pro Celebrity Race in 2007 but finished the race in last place among those drivers not involved in a wreck. Since this event not much has been mentioned about Robin’s race car driving career.

Quivers signed a television deal with Sony in 2004 for her own talk show. She began to explore independent opportunities during the FCC indecency crackdown earlier in the year. This talk show was supposed to happen in Fall 2006 according to what Howard said on Larry King Live, but she revealed on the air in March 2006 that the deal had stalled. She has claimed that a lack of available time slots due to competition from other celebrities who also signed talk show deals was the primary reason for her show’s stalled status.

She announced on the April 30, 2007, show that she was developing a mid-day talk show of her own for Sirius of “women’s issues”. While still in the planning stage, Quivers revealed she would continue her role on the Stern Show and that her show would most likely not air on Howard 100/101, but would air on another channel following the Howard Stern show.

[edit] Personal life

Quivers resides in Staten Island, New York, with three cats. From the mid-1990s until April 2007, her longtime boyfriend was a man mysteriously referred to on the radio show as “Mr. X.” His anonymity to the Stern audience was merely to protect his career. Since then, Quivers has occasionally referred to him as “Tony.” On April 23, 2007 Robin called in to the Bubba The Love Sponge Radio Show and announced she and Mr. X had separated.

Quivers also became the subject of much discussion, primarily focused on her personal health and well-being. In June 2007, Quivers began a strict vegan diet which she says helped to increase her energy and helped her to lose 60 pounds over a six month period . The diet also included use of an “infrared blanket,” allegedly used to “sweat away badness,” and she also began a coffee enema regimen. The use of coffee enemas has managed to shift into her professional life (for obvious reasons). In addition to the newfound diet, Quivers informed the world on September 12th, 2007 that she had begun treatment with the controversial EECP machine, which is essentially a giant blood pump, typically reserved for people suffering from severe angina.

During the July 31st 2007 broadcast of the show Robin confessed to having a sexual attraction to the actor Peter Dinklage. This became a source of ridicule by the on air team in subsequent shows.

In August 2007, comedian Jim Florentine asked Quivers to go on a date with him live on the air. Due to the attention this garnered, Quivers has become tight-lipped about the topic due to a fear of the Howard 100 News team reporting any details on the radio. However, on September 26, 2007, Robin acknowledged that she has dated Jim. On the Opie and Anthony Show, Opie revealed that they were hanging out with Jim Florentine and Robin Quivers, who are now officially dating. According to Opie, Quivers “couldn’t have been nicer”.
